Julianna Raye

Julianna Raye, founder of Unified Mindfulness, is dedicated to advancing the reach of Shinzen Young’s  comprehensive system through education and teacher training certification programs. She is devoted to deepening people’s understanding of research supported mindfulness practice and empowering anyone to guide others in it’s practice. She has been training individuals and groups in Unified Mindfulness for over 17 years. Julianna is also a founding member of the mindfulness app, Brightmind. In addition to her work for Unified Mindfulness and Brightmind, she creates onsite and online mindfulness training for enterprise clients through the Flourishing Leadership Institute. She also delivers keynotes, privately coaches executives in sales and leadership, celebrities, entrepreneurs and group trains company leaders interested in preventative health care and improving the work environment, through mindfulness meditation. Julianna delivers specific mindfulness strategies most relevant to the individual or company’s needs.

Julianna received her BA in psychology from Duke University. But for many years, she paved a professional path for herself in the arts, as a singer/songwriter. She was drawn to mindfulness 20 years ago, to manage severe anxiety and depression as well as the dramatic emotional ups and downs of life as an artist. With over 100 weeks of immersive silent retreat training in both mindfulness and zen, Julianna has racked up 12,000 plus hours of formal practice time, rewiring her brain and creating a new normal for herself. In a study at UCLA comparing long-term meditators’ brains with non-meditators, the results of Julianna’s MRI led to inter-views on ABC, Globo and Reuters news outlets, about the benefits of Mindfulness practice. Unified Mindfulness, has been used in research at Harvard Medical Center (with breakthrough results) and other major research centers. In fact Julianna has just completed a mindfulness workplace research study with noted researcher David Creswell, through Carnegie Mellon University. This study was a rare opportunity for Julianna to design and implement a training program for a mid-size company (Fathom Digital Marketing) while having the results rigorously studied by Creswell’s lab. Very little rigorous re-search on mindfulness has been done in the workplace, so the amount of data collect-ed for this study is unique. The dataset is currently being analyzed.
