Certified UM Trainer/Teacher

I am a physician, executive coach, and a university professor of medical education at West Virginia University. My professional interests are in developing resilience and positive character strengths of coaches, mentors, students, and teachers. My approach to coaching has been inspired by positive psychology – appreciative inquiry, character strengths and the mindful awareness practices of Unified Mindfulness. Personally, my contemplative practices have led to greater serenity, resilience, patience, and happiness. Now in my elder years, I am motivated to share it with others.

  • M.D. Asst prof Medical Education at WVU
  • I facilitate/coach team responses to simulated medical crisis.
  • Consult on a curriculum for mindfulness education.
  • Certified Professional Coach from College of Executive Coaching®
  • Internal coaching at WV- Health Science Center for professional development
  • Private clients from small business owners to Fortune 500 executives
  • Former athletic performance coach and team physician for Olympic and professional athletes
  • Physician leader in disaster response as a volunteer with the Pennsylvania State Medical Assistance Team
  • I teach and compete in the sport of dog agility.
  • I became interested in contemplative practices in the 80’s as a way to move through my professional and emotional challenges with more grace and resilience.  I learned and applied more tools from positive psychology and improved my happiness in the 2000’s.
  • My training and practice of UM techniques gave me the conceptual clarity and practical utility to begin sharing these practices with others.
