Pez Owen is a long-time student of mindfulness teacher and scholar Shinzen Young, who encouraged her to start teaching in 2009. She began as a facilitator/coach and eventually joined Shinzen as a co-teacher during retreats in Israel. In 2014, a retiring Flagstaff meditation teacher asked her to take over his weekly mindfulness group in Flagstaff, and she has been teaching there ever since (with activities and events now offered internationally, online)
Pez is happy to share from personal experience of using mindfulness tools to work with Major Depressive Disorder, Dissociative Identity Disorder, and a sleep disorder that results in frequent sleepiness during meditation.
Pez has a particular interest in applying mindfulness to everyday activities, and in using everyday activities to learn mindfulness. Previous workshops have included mindful hiking, mindful forest-art walks, mindful laser tag, and mindful improv.
In 2020, Pez completed the Unified Mindfulness Pathways training program and is now a certified Level 2 UM trainer.
